PSL 2023: Shaheen Shah Afridi hit the winning runs as Lahore Qalandars beat Peshawar Zalmi by four wickets in the Eliminator 2 on Friday.
By India Today Sports Desk: Lahore Qalandars’ skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi had the chance to hit the winning runs in his team’s Eliminator 2 against Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi on Friday, March 18 in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023.
The Qalandars, thereby, advanced to the final of the PSL 2023 where they will face Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With six runs needed off nine balls, Shaheen smashed a full toss from fast bowler Salman Irshad for a four through the mid-wicket region.
On the very next delivery, Shaheen hit a six down the ground to seal the deal. Irshad bowled a full-length delivery and the batter cleared his front leg to hit the ball straight over the ropes. Shaheen also held his pose for the cameras after hitting the winning runs.
Shaheen stayed unbeaten on 12 runs off four balls with one four and a six. Earlier in the tournament, he also notched a fifty against the Zalmi when he scored 52 runs at the Pindi Club Ground in Rawalpindi.
Shaheen didn’t have a great time with the ball in the game on Friday. He picked up the wicket of the dangerous Mohammad Haris, but went for 41 runs.
After opting to bat first, Zalmi scored 171 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Haris was the pick of the batters after he scored 85 runs off 54 balls with 11 fours and two sixes.
But the Qalandars chased down the target with seven balls to spare after Mirza Baig, who won the Player of the Match award, scored 54 runs off 42 balls with seven fours and two sixes.
