Youtuber Manish Kashyap sent to judicial custody till March 22 in fake videos case

Manish Kashyap is accused of uploading purported videos and spreading rumours about attacks on Bihar migrants in Tamil Nadu.

By Rohit Kumar Singh: YouTuber Manish Kashyap has been sent to judicial custody in a fake video case till March 22 after he was produced before a magistrate earlier today. He is accused of uploading purported videos and spreading rumours pertaining to attacks on Bihar migrants in Tamil Nadu. The accused surrendered before Champaran Police in Bihar after several police teams were on his hunt.

A total of six Special Investigation Teams (SITs) constituted by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) along with Patna and Champaran Police teams had been looking for Kashyap at locations linked to him since Friday.

After being produced in court, Manish Kashyap was sent to judicial custody.

Manish Kashyap fought elections for Bihar’s Chanpatia Assembly seat in 2020. On the nomination papers, Manish had mentioned his name as ‘Tripurari Kumar Tiwari’, which is his real name. He is a YouTuber and studied engineering in 2016.

According to the details, Manish refers to himself as the ‘son of Bihar’.

Manish Kashyap is alleged to have uploaded a video which garnered over a thousand views on his video, falsely showing migrant labourers from Bihar purportedly being harassed in Tamil Nadu. In return, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called for an inquiry into the incident. Following, Kashyap was on the radar of Bihar and Tamil Nadu Police.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin denied allegations of harassment of migrant workers in the state. He also reassured his Bihar CM Nitish Kumar that workers were not targeted.
