Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Nick Pope have withdrawn from the England squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers due to injuries.
By India Today Sports Desk: Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Nick Pope have withdrawn from the England squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers due to injuries, the Football Association said.
Manchester United striker Rashford suffered a knock during the 3-1 win over Fulham in the FA Cup. Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is recovering from a pelvic injury, while Newcastle goalkeeper Pope sustained an injury in the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
England coach Gareth Southgate initially included them in his 25-man squad but Chelsea manager Graham Potter later on said that Mount would not be joining England for international duties.
Mount has been on the sidelines for Chelsea since February owing to a pubic bone injury. The midfielder also missed Chelsea’s recent draw with Everton in the Premier League.
Rashford has been in phenomenal form for Manchester United this season, having scored 27 goals in all competitions. Out of 27, 19 came after he returned from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
England have called Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster to replace Nick Pope. Forster made his last six appearances for England in 2016.
“No further replacements are planned and 23 players arrived at St. George’s Park on Monday,” said an England statement.
England will travel to Italy on March 23 before hosting Ukraine at Wembley on March 26.
