FA Cup: Manchester United book semi-final berth after drama filled 3-1 victory against Fulham

Manchester United marched into the semi-final of the FA Cup after pulling off a 3-1 comeback win against Fulham. Fulham were shown three red cards in the game.

By India Today Sports Desk: Manchester United reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup after a drama-filled 3-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday, 19 March. United came from a goal down at scored three second-half goals to defeat a spirited Fulham side that dominated the game in the first half of the match.

Three red cards were shown to Fulham in the second half, two to players Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic and the final one to manager Marco Silva. It started with a VAR review around the 70th minute of the match where Willian was caught stopping the ball with his hand from entering the goal. The referee’s red card was protested by striker Mitrovic, who shoved the referee with his shoulder, in turn earning him the second red card for the team.

Just before this Fulham manager Marco Silva was awarded a red card for protesting the VAR decision against Willian.

United dominated the proceedings from there, with Bruno Fernandes converting the penalty in the 75th minute. Two minutes later new United recruit Marcel Sabitzer gave the team a 2-1 lead in the quarter-finals. United looked assured after from there and hit the final blow in added time, courtesy a strong finish from Bruno Fernandes from inside the right side of the penalty box.

Speaking after the game, Fulham manager Marco Silva fumed at the referee and said that he should have been there during the more difficult moments in the game.

Manchester United will face Brighton in the semi-final clash on 22 April. Earlier in the competition, Manchester City thrashed Burnley 6-0 to reach the semi-finals of the competition and will face Sheffield United in the semis.
