Ram Charan was offered the Hindi remake of SS Rajamouli’s Magadheera. The Mega Power Star, however, refused to take it up.
By Roktim Rajpal: Ram Charan is widely regarded as one of Tollywood’s brightest stars. The actor enjoys a dedicated fan following due to his impressive screen presence and powerful performances. He emerged as a global sensation with RRR, co-starring Jr NTR. He also has an enviable lineup of films, which includes Game Changer and RC 16.
While everyone is aware of his solid body of work, not many may know that he was to enter Bollywood with the remake of Magadheera. The 2009 blockbuster established the Mega Power Star as a household name in the Telugu film industry. Bollywood producers felt that it would be a good launchpad for him. Ram Charan, however, refused the offer. On Tuesday trivia, here’s a look at why the mass hero was not interested in starring in the Hindi remake of this SS Rajamouli film.
WHEN RAM CHARAN REJECTED MAGADHEERA’S HINDI REMAKE
Ram Charan received tremendous critical acclaim for his performance in SS Rajamouli’s reincarnation saga, Magadheera, which proved to be a blockbuster. Anil Kapoor was impressed by the film and expressed his desire to see him in its Hindi remake. The actor had earlier revealed that he asked his brother and noted Bollywood producer, Boney Kapoor, to produce the project. Charan, however, turned down the offer.
In an interview with Times of India, Charan had said that he wasn’t sure if Magadheera could actually be remade. “When I met Anil Kapoor some time back, he told me I will ask Boney to remake Magadheera with you in Hindi. But I said I don’t know if I would want to do the remake. Magadheera is a lovely film which can’t be recreated,” he was quoted saying.
Magadheera was a fantasy drama that featured Ram Charan in two distinct roles. It revolved around a stuntperson who learns he is the reincarnation of a great warrior. The film starred Kajal Aggarwal as the leading lady and proved to be a game-changer for her. The cast also included Dev Gill, Srihari, and Rao Ramesh, among others. Chiranjeevi had a cameo in the biggie.
Magadheera proved to be a massive hit at the box office. It received critical acclaim, with critics praising the performances and production values. Magadheera was remade in Bengali as Yoddha, starring Dev. It, however, failed to live up to expectations.
Coming back to the present, Charan is going through a busy phase on the work front. He impressed fans and critics alike with his performance in RRR. The star attended this year’s Oscars, where Naatu Naatu won the award for The Best Original Song.
The actor will soon be seen in Game Changer, directed by S Shankar. The film stars Kiara Advani as the leading lady. This will be her second film with the heart-throb after Vinaya Vidheya Rama. Game Changer’s cast includes Anjali, Jayaram and Nassar, among others.
The buzz is that Game Changer will have shades of the Arjun Sarja-led Mudhalvan. Charan also has a film with Buchi Babu Sana of Uppena fame in his kitty. It is referred to as RC 16. The biggie’s first-look poster was released on March 27 on the occasion of Charan’s 38th birthday.
