Gwyneth Paltrow wins Utah ski collision trial, whispers in claimant’s ears as she leaves court

Gwyneth Paltrow was embroiled in a highly-publicised trial that centered around a ski accident that occurred in 2016. She has won the case against complainant Terry Sanderson.

By Grace Cyril: Award-winning Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow was recently embroiled in a civil trial for a 2016 skiing crash at a Utah resort. The lawsuit was filed by Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, around a ski accident that occurred in 2016. He sued Paltrow for $300,000 after claiming that the crash left him with broken ribs and caused permanent brain damage. Gwyneth Paltrow has now won the civil trial. After debating for over two hours, the jury found the Goop CEO not liable and ruled in her favor.

Gwyneth Paltrow had claimed that Terry Sanderson crashed into her at the Deer Valley Resort, Utah in 2016. She sought just $1 in damages and attorney’s fees. Meanwhile, Sanderson’s attorney asked the jury to consider his client’s brain injury and award him $3.2 million while the complaint alleged his damages were more than $300,000.

The verdict in the case came after a two-week trial that had dozens of witnesses taking the stand. The jury found Terry Sanderson at fault for the crash and finding him at fault for Paltrow’s harm. He was found at fault in terms of comparative negligence. The actress was awarded damages of $1, as she requested. Her legal costs will be decided at a later date.

As Gwyneth Paltrow was leaving the court, she whispered in Sanderson’s ears. Outside the court, Sanderson told the media that Paltrow placed her hand on his shoulder after the verdict and said, “I wish you well.”

In statement, Gwyneth Paltrow said, “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.”

Paltrow’s attorney, Steve Owens’ statement said, “We are pleased with this unanimous outcome and appreciate the judge and jury’s thoughtful handling of the case. Gwyneth has a history of advocating for what she believes in – this situation was no different and she will continue to stand up for what is right.”
