IPL 2023: Trying to pick Dwayne Bravo’s brains, says CSK’s Tushar Deshpande on learning death bowling

IPL 2023, CSK vs LSG: Fast bowler Tushar Deshpande admitted that bowling at the death isn’t easy and he is trying to pick the brains of Dwayne Bravo.

By India Today Sports Desk: Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) fast bowler Tushar Deshpande said that he is trying to learn the art of death bowling from Dwayne Bravo. The speedster was roped in as an Impact Player, replacing Ambati Rayudu, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, April 3 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

However, he didn’t start well after conceding 18 runs in his first over, which consisted of 11 deliveries. But skipper MS Dhoni trusted him to defend 28 runs in the last over and he bowled well enough to guide the Super Kings to a victory by 12 runs at the Chepauk.

Can’t fill Bravo’s shoes: Tushar Deshpande
“I feel getting a chance is not in my hands, but what is in my hands is putting in efforts and keeping on improving myself day by day. So, I was just focussing on that and, personally, when I keep on growing as a bowler, the opportunities will keep coming towards me. I just need to grab it with a cool mind,” Deshpande told the reporters.

“Bowling at the death is not an easy skill and I am still learning. We have a great death bowler as a bowling coach (Dwayne Bravo) and I am trying to pick his brains, what he has done from the start of the IPL until the last year. My role is quite similar to what DJ has done for CSK. I can’t fill his shoes, but I am trying to learn from him,” Deshpande added.

Deshpande had a tough day in the office when he played as an Impact Player against the Gujarat Titans. But he made amends to some extent against the Super Giants, finishing with figures of 4-0-45-2. He also got the prized wicket of Nicholas Pooran, who scored 32 runs off 18 balls and was threatening to take the match away from CSK.
